Infectious mononucleosis complicated by acute haemolytic anaemia with a positive Donath-Landsteiner reaction.

چکیده
A patient with infectious mononucleosis complicated by acute haemolytic anaemia is described. The patient had, in addition to non-specific cold agglutinins in the serum, a positive Donath-Landsteiner reaction in the absence of syphilis. The association of a positive Donath-Landsteiner reaction with haemolytic anaemia in infectious mononucleosis has been described only once before.

Acute acquired haemolytic anaemia associated with herpes simplex infection.
Acquired haemolytic anaemia in childhood is a relatively uncommon condition. Lederer (1925) described three patients with acute haemolytic anaemia and in the literature up to 1938 Atkinson (1940) found 59 cases of 'Lederer's anaemia', 30 of which were in children. Millichap (1952) reviewed the papers published between 1940 and 1951 and found reports of a further 32 children with this disorder, ...
متن کاملDiagnostic difficulties in a patient with paroxysmal cold haemoglobinuria and acute kidney injury
Paroxysmal cold haemoglobinuria (PCH) is a form of autoimmune haemolytic anaemia (AIHA) characterised by a sudden onset of haemoglobinuria, either spontaneously or following exposure to cold. In children, it is commonly seen following a viral illness or after immunisation. Diagnosis of PCH is confirmed by a positive Donath Landsteiner (DL) test in which biphasic haemolysins are detected. Howeve...
متن کاملAutohemagglutinins and hemolysins with hemoglobinuria and acute hemolytic anemia, in an illness resembling infectious mononucleosis.
CUTE acquired hemolytic anemia is uncommon, but dramatic in its clinical picture and often disastrous in its outcome. In 1940, Dameshek and Schwartz’ assembled about ioo cases reported in the literature since 1907, in which no definite etiology was evident. In addition, as cited by these authors, cases have been reported in which the anemia developed in association with definite or probable eti...

By CARL F. HINz, JR. T HE HEMOLYSIN of the Donath-Landsteiner reaction, responsible for [)arOxysmal cold hemoglobinuria, has not been characterized physicochemically. Other erythrocyte agglutinins and hemolysins have been identified in both the 75 and 195 fractions of y-globulin,1 and certain other of the cold antibodies have been identified with the 195 globulins.2 Further, the Donath-Landstei...
متن کاملEvaluation of IL-17 and IL-10 Production in Infectious Mononucleosis in EBV Patients
Epstein–Barr virus is primarily the cause of acute infectious mononucleosis and can also cause lymphoma and autoimmune diseases. Th17 cells, which are a unique subset of ThCD4+ cells, direct the infection toward inflammation through production of inflammatory cytokine IL-17. In contrast, Treg Foxp3 cells inhibit inflammation through secretion of anti-inflammatory cytokine IL-10, leading to chro...
